STDU Stage 1 Day Tour - Tanunda to Campbelltown

See the Stage:        Checker Hill

Race Route Map:    click here

Maximum Guests:   25  SOLD OUT

What a thrilling way to kick start the Tour Down Under, with a stage taking in Menglers & Checker Hill!

Our Tour will start from a central location near the Adelaide CBD, for a fully supported ride in the Adelaide Hills. Steve will showcase to you some of the roads that are to be used in this years Tour. As with all our day tours, you will be provided ride route options depending on your ability -  a more challenging ride of some 120km and a shorter 1 way option of around 60km (in either direction -  transfer numbers are strictly limited so please let us know at the time of booking if you would like to reserve a place in our vehicles). And remember, we never leave anyone to fend for themselves!

"Never has the Tour Down Under climbed Checker Hill from the reverse side, and perhaps for good reason!" explains Steve. "It's a little monster of a climb, not as steep as it's brother, but under race conditions this approach to the summit I think will have a far greater impact on the race itself. It's a longer approach with varying degrees of gradients and going to be the perfect place for riders to launch an attack before charging down Gorge Road into Campbelltown. A perfect place to be watching the race."

We will have our procyclingtours Base Camp set up at Checker Hill today, watch the race, enjoy a BBQ lunch before riding back to Adelaide on the race route itself - no major climbs to conquer after lunch, just a thrilling ride back down the Gorge! For the full list of inclusions, refer further up this page.

Maximum Guests:    25     SOLD OUT

A first for the Santos Tour Down Under, riding in the heart of the Adelaide Hills, Steve's training base when in Adelaide.

The race has never climbed to Crafers via Belair Road / Upper Sturt before, and indeed the locals also avoid this if they have to - it's arguable the toughest way into the hills! "By the time you reach Crafers, you've climbed about 300m more in elevation that any other way in, due to the short descent on route, Mike Turtor has put together a real challenge for the peloton today, one most thrilling of stages on record". says Steve (yes he can get a little excited..)

Our Day Tour will once again start in a central location following the race route up to Crafers. No better way to appreciate what the race is going to be like than doing part of the course yourself! We'll then continue on through the stunning Piccadilly Valley, widely considered to be 'the Tuscuny of the Australia' before watching the race. Then it's off to Stirling through some of Steve's favourite lesser known backroads to Stirling, where the PCT team will be set up for BBQ lunch and where we will see the stage finish -  but not before seeing the race pass by some 3 times on the finishing circuit!

"Stirling is fast rivalling Willunga as the classic stage to the tour, having featured in the event consecultively for the past few years". "it's beautiful and perfect location also means we have a short ride back to Adelaide (down hill!) after the race. The location today will mean we can offer a range of riding options from really challenging to a more direct ride to Stirling. a day perfectly suited for couples of varying riding abilities. For the full list of inclusions, refer further up this page.

STDU Stage 3 Day Tour - Norwood to Paracombe

Date:                       Thursday 22 January 2015

Ride Options:         70km to 100kms

See the Stage:        Lenswood / Lobethal / Torrens Hill Road

Race Route map:    click here

Maximum Guests:   25        SOLD OUT

It's another tough day in the saddle for the peloton today, a similar stage to what was featured in 2012 where the race laps around the vineyards and apple orchards of Lobethal, Lenswood, Woodside and Charleston. "The loop will be a launching pad for an opportunist, with a lot of undulations on the course, but will they be able to stay away to the base of Torrens Hill Road!" explains Steve.

"Torrens Hill Road last featured in the very first edition of the Tour Down Under way back in 1999 and there were a few grumbles amongst the teams back then that it was too hard for a race in January. Turn the clock forward 15 years, the riders a fitter, the bikes are lighter and the stakes are higher, Torrens Hill Road is back to help decide the winner of the Tour Down Under!"

Our Day Tour will leave from an inner city café and ride up Norton Summit Road, well known for being the gateway to the Adelaide Hills for cyclists. On route to Lenswood, there will be options to tackle some of Steve's favourite roads, including a couple of 'strada biancha' segments for the brave!  We'll make our way to the PCT Tent for lunch and watch the race pass by up to 3 occassions.

The for those that would like to see the 'fireworks' on Torrens Hill Road, we'll leave after 1 laps of the circuit to escort you over on backroads to the base of the climb, that's where it's all going to happen!  We will then take a leisurely ride back to Adelaide via Gorge Road. A brilliant day chasing the Tour around, somewhat replicating the charades of a Belgium 1 Day Classic!  For the full list of inclusions, refer further up this page.

STDU Stage 5 Day Tour - McLaren Vale to Willunga

Date:    Saturday 24 January 2015

Ride Options:    65km to 120km

See the Stage:    Willunga Hill

Race Route Map:  click here

Maximum Guests:   25        SOLD OUT

Bus return (optional):  $60 +GST

The 'Queen Stage' of the Tour Down Under is traditionally battled out on the famous Willunga Hill and 2015 is no different - why change a brilliant racing formula! The race takes meanders through the McLaren Vale vineyards and the southern coastline through Aldinga, before the big boys fire up for 2 assaults on Willunga Hill. A climb that is has the name Simon Gerrans stamped all over it - who will be able to challenge him in 2015?

"Willunga Hill is fast becoming considered the Alpe d'Huez of Australia, not so much due it's it's length and gradient, but moreso the atmosphere and host to some extremely thrilling finishes" explains Steve. "When I raced the TDU, we finished in the old town of Willunga and not at the summit, recalls Steve and I remember having done the job to the base of Willunga Hill for our GC rider, being able to 'sit up' to enjoy the ride home - well try to enjoy it. It's now a better race, using the summit as the finish line and therefore enabling the most deserving winner of the Tour Down Under pput it all on the line - you can't hide on Willunga Hill".

Your supported ride today will leave from Adelaide and head south. But not on the usual 'ant trail' of cyclists making their annual pilgamige to Willunga, we have a far more scenic and quiter route to take you. A few very rewarding climbs on-route to capture magnificant views, once at Willunga and trackside, enjoy a fully catered BBQ lunch before making the choice of either riding back to Adelaide or reserve a place on the bus (numbers are strictly limited). For the full list of inclusions, refer further up this page.
